Patni stated that he, along with his friends Shailesh Patni and Minesh (alias Motu Patni), had just concluded participating in a Ganesh idol arrival procession organized by the Chokhandi Youth Federation. The group subsequently visited a nearby food stall in the Chokhandi area for snacks.
While at the stall, a verbal dispute allegedly broke out over the collection of festival contributions. As per the FIR, the shopkeeper, identified as Mahesh Bijendrasingh Vaghela, vehemently objected to the funds being sought from his family. The verbal argument quickly deteriorated into physical violence. Patni alleges that Mahesh retrieved a wooden stick from inside his shop and assaulted Minesh, inflicting visible injuries to his left upper arm and the area below his elbow. Furthermore, the complainant claimed that Mahesh’s parents—his father, Bijendrasingh Vaghela, and his mother—joined the fray, issuing severe threats to the youths during the scuffle.

Conversely, a starkly different narrative has surfaced from the shopkeeper’s perspective, painting the incident as an act of extortion and subsequent retaliation. According to counter-allegations, members of the youth group approached the commercial establishment under the guise of collecting festival funds and demanded a highly inflated contribution of ₹21,000.
When the shopkeeper objected to the exorbitant amount and firmly refused to pay, the youths allegedly became aggressive. It has been claimed that following the refusal, several individuals forcibly entered the shop and intentionally vandalized the property.
