The two-day National Security Strategies Conference (NSSC) 2026 commenced in New Delhi on Monday, August 24, 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is attending and inaugurating the high-level annual conference, which brings together the top brass of India's internal and external security architecture. Organized in a hybrid format, combining both physical and virtual participation, the strategic forum serves as a critical nationwide platform to address complex national security challenges, review counter-terrorism capabilities, evaluate intelligence frameworks, and map out long-term security priorities for the country.
Approximately 850 senior security personnel, state Directors General of Police (DGPs), heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), intelligence agency chiefs, and operational police officers are participating in the proceedings, both in person and via virtual connections. The primary agenda focuses on evaluating the evolving national security landscape, discussing actionable intelligence strategies, and fostering seamless coordination between central security agencies and state police forces across various jurisdictions to ensure a synchronized defense posture.
High-Level Deliberations and Strategic Focus Areas
Throughout the two-day summit, top security leaders are engaging in extensive brainstorming sessions covering a wide array of emerging operational threats. Key topics on the agenda include counter-terrorism measures, cross-border security dynamics, left-wing extremism, counter-insurgency operations, and the rising operational challenges posed by radicalization. Special emphasis is also being placed on disrupting narcotics trafficking networks and dismantling their illicit financial modules.
Specialized sessions are also dedicated to addressing modern technological threats, such as cybercrime, financial fraud, drone technology misuse along border areas, and deep-tech security infrastructure. The deliberations aim to formulate cohesive, nationwide operational guidelines and policy frameworks that enable state and central agencies to proactively neutralize threats before they materialize.
Institutionalizing Security Reforms and Best Practices
In line with the directions originally issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 2016 DGP/IGP Conference, the annual NSSC format leverages the extensive experience of grassroot-level police officers combined with domain experts. Under the leadership of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the conference emphasizes the integration of data-driven intelligence tools and technology-led law enforcement mechanisms.
Security chiefs are sharing field-level best practices, successes from recent counter-terror operations, civil aviation security protocols, port security frameworks, and innovative policing models developed across different regions. The strategic recommendations finalized during this conference will form the foundation for policy implementation across intelligence networks and police headquarters nationwide, ensuring a modernized defense apparatus against national security risks.
