Police Register Murder Case Against Two Sons in Jalna District
JALNA — Law enforcement authorities in Jalna district, Maharashtra, have registered a criminal case against two brothers for the alleged murder of their father following a violent domestic altercation. According to official police reports released on October 5, 2026, the deceased, identified as Raju, was allegedly killed by his sons, Sunil and Anil, after an argument erupted over Raju physically assaulting his wife while intoxicated.
The incident came to light after police retrieved the victim's body from a deep agricultural well in the Waghul Dongargaon locality. Charges have been formally invoked against both suspects under provisions governing murder and the destruction of evidence under Indian criminal law.
Investigation Reveals Assault Escalated During Domestic Dispute
Preliminary police inquiries indicate that the altercation began at the family residence when Raju arrived home in an inebriated condition and engaged in a physical assault against his wife. Witness accounts and police documentation reveal that the two sons, angered by the continued domestic violence directed toward their mother, intervened to stop the physical abuse.
The confrontation escalated rapidly when Sunil and Anil allegedly attacked Raju with wooden sticks, inflicting serious blunt-force injuries. Seeing their father gravely injured, the two brothers initially made an attempt to transport him to a hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for emergency medical intervention. However, law enforcement officials stated that during transit, Sunil allegedly strangled Raju, resulting in his death.
Concealment of Body and Subsequent Disclosure to Family Member
Following the death of their father, the suspects altered their route and transported the body to Waghul Dongargaon. According to investigators, Anil assisted Sunil in dumping Raju’s body into an open agricultural well situated in a field to conceal the homicide and prevent detection by local authorities.
The crime remained undisclosed until Anil confided the sequence of events to a third brother, identified as Sitaram. Upon learning of the homicide and the disposal of the body, Sitaram approached local law enforcement authorities and disclosed the details provided by his brother. Acting on the information provided by Sitaram, a police contingent was dispatched to the designated agricultural site, where they recovered Raju's body from the well in the presence of witnesses and administrative officials.
Jurisdictional Transfer and Forensic Procedures Initiated
Following the recovery of the remains, police registered an initial case and transferred the primary investigative mandate to the Risod police station for comprehensive forensic and criminal inquiry. The body was dispatched to a district government hospital for a formal post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death, time of death, and the nature of the fatal injuries.
Investigators are collecting forensic evidence from the vehicle used during transit, the scene of the initial physical assault, and the well site. Police officials indicated that statements from family members, neighbors, and local villagers are being recorded to verify the timeline of events and to ascertain whether previous complaints of domestic violence had been filed regarding the household.
