The third round of talks between the government and agitating students to end the ongoing agitation over alleged irregularities in various competitive examinations, including the JPSC and JSSC, in Jharkhand has also proved fruitless.
Even after this marathon meeting that lasted for nearly five and a half hours, the impasse remains; the students are firm on their demands, while the government is also firm on its position.
After the talks failed, the students announced that they would not call off their hunger strike and would continue with the planned assembly siege on Monday.
During the meeting, the state government clarified that the JSSC CGL exam will not be cancelled under any circumstances as the matter is currently sub judice in the High Court and the Supreme Court. However, the government assured the students that a judicial inquiry will be ordered into the alleged irregularities in the JSSC CGL exam.
In contrast, there appeared to be a consensus on the cancellation of the 14th JPSC examination; the government assured that the CID inquiry into the irregularities in this examination would be completed within 90 days.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of an ED (Enforcement Directorate) probe into the financial aspects of the entire case. The government said that the examinations conducted by the outsourcing agency TDPL will also be investigated.
Despite these assurances, the students are dissatisfied and are adamant on their main demand for a CBI inquiry.
The main demands of the protesting students include cancellation of the JSSC CGL exam, CBI inquiry, and reforms in the functioning of JPSC and JSSC.
Additionally, they have been consistently demanding a thorough investigation into the role of Abhay Tiwari, who was allegedly involved in the examination irregularities, and the immediate cancellation of all examinations related to his involvement.
After the discussion, Minister Sudivya Kumar said that a detailed report outlining the points of agreement and disagreement between the government and the students will be submitted to Chief Minister Hemant Soren.
Meanwhile, the students who returned after the discussion will hold a press conference today and announce their next strategy. Currently, the state government is not in a mood to cancel the JSSC CGL exam, while the students are determined to give a decisive fight.
