Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has extended the tenure of the Special Investigation Team (SIT)—tasked with probing matters related to donations in the Ayodhya pilgrimage area—until July 15. The SIT had requested additional time from the Chief Minister to conduct a thorough investigation into various aspects of the case; acceding to this request, the Chief Minister directed the team to submit its report by July 15.

On June 23, Vijay Vishwas Pant, the SIT chief and Divisional Commissioner of Lucknow, submitted a preliminary report containing key recommendations to the Home Department. Based on these recommendations and a written complaint filed by Trust member Krishna Mohan, the first FIR was registered at the 'Shri Ram Janmabhoomi' police station on June 25; this FIR named eight individuals and other unidentified persons as accused. All the accused named in the case have now been arrested.
