The central government and Meta held a meeting in New Delhi for the third consecutive day regarding deepfakes, child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and unlabeled AI-generated content. At the meeting, the government sought answers from Meta regarding the reappearance and rapid spread of harmful AI content on the platform.

The government asked why there was difficulty in blocking such content despite the IT rules. It also asked Meta to strengthen content moderation and report on the steps being taken in this direction.

The meeting also emphasized the need to improve content moderation and monitoring systems to suit Indian languages and local conditions. The Meta team stated that technical solutions are being developed and implemented to address deepfakes, fake bot accounts, and objectionable content.

According to sources, another meeting on these issues is expected next week. Earlier, IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnav questioned Meta officials about the content algorithm and compliance with Indian laws.

The government clarified that its objective is not censorship, but rather ensuring effective compliance with Indian laws, and that the steps taken by META will be regularly reviewed.
