The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved 'Phase-2A' of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project. Under this project, a 6.032-kilometer-long metro corridor will be developed from Koteshwar Road to the airport; it will feature a total of five stations, comprising four elevated and one underground station.

Upon completion of this project, the total length of the operational metro network between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will increase to 77.63 kilometers. The proposed stations for this new route include Ashram Road, Koteshwar Ancient Temple, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar, and the Airport.

According to government data, the total estimated cost of the project is ₹2,169.04 crore (including Interest During Construction - IDC).

**Direct Connectivity to the Airport and Key Areas**

The objective of Metro 'Phase-2A' is to strengthen the city's public transport system and provide seamless metro connectivity to the airport. This route will also connect residential and commercial areas that currently lack adequate public transport facilities.

This new line will integrate with the existing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro network. Additionally, the project is expected to benefit the sports facilities being developed in the area in preparation for the 2029 'World Police Games' and the 2030 'Commonwealth Games'.

Construction of the Ahmedabad Metro 'Phase-2A' project is likely to generate employment for approximately 2,000 people, while maintenance and repair operations post-commissioning will provide jobs for about 500 people.

According to the government, this project will mark a significant step towards enhancing Ahmedabad's urban development, promoting sustainable transport, and improving the quality of life for its citizens.
