Heavy rains following a typhoon caused severe flooding in Jiexi County, Jieyang City, Guangdong Province, China, on Sunday. The continuous rains caused rivers and streams to overflow their banks, while many areas were waterlogged, completely disrupting normal life.

Many roads were inundated by floodwaters and many vehicles were partially or completely submerged in the water. Due to the fast flow, traffic has been disrupted in many places and citizens are facing great difficulties.

The local administration has deployed emergency rescue teams and is evacuating residents from flood-affected areas to safer places. Officials have also informed that water pumping, road clearance and relief work are underway at a rapid pace.

Officials have urged citizens to avoid flood-affected and low-lying areas, warning of landslides, flash floods and traffic disruptions as heavy rains continue.

The administration is currently conducting a preliminary assessment of the damage and rescue and relief operations are underway on a war footing.
