Bank Robbery in Hazaribagh: In broad daylight, criminals robbed a bank in Barhi, located in the Hazaribagh district. Masked perpetrators looted gold worth approximately ₹5 to ₹6 crore and ₹4 lakh in cash from the 'Bank of Maharashtra' before fleeing the scene. The criminals executed the entire operation in a mere 15 minutes. After committing the crime, they locked the bank employees inside the 'strong room' (vault), where the staff remained trapped for a full hour. Hearing cries for help coming from inside, locals eventually came to their rescue. The employees reported that the criminals had physically assaulted them during the incident. The crime was carried out by a gang of five individuals; one of the criminals wore a helmet, another wore a mask, while the remaining three had their faces covered with 'Gamchas' (traditional cloth towels). All of them were armed. Upon receiving information about the incident, Vimal Kumar, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Barhi, arrived at the scene and confirmed the occurrence. He stated that gold worth approximately ₹2 crore had been looted. He further noted that the exact value of the stolen items could only be determined following a thorough verification and reconciliation process. He also informed that patrolling has been intensified across the entire area, and checkpoints have been set up at various locations to inspect vehicles in an effort to apprehend the criminals. He gave an assurance that the criminals would be arrested soon.
