The Central Government has issued new guidelines amidst the rising threat of cybercriminals targeting financial infrastructure using Artificial Intelligence (AI).

These guidelines were issued by the Indian Cyber ​​Crime Coordination Centre, operating under the Ministry of Home Affairs, which highlighted that cybercriminals are extensively using AI to create deepfake videos and fake identities.

Such criminals initiate contact through social media, job portals, dating platforms, and phone calls. They collect biometric data by prompting victims to perform actions such as blinking, nodding, or speaking in front of the camera.

The government has advised financial institutions and fintech companies to strengthen their deepfake detection systems and reinforce customer onboarding processes.

It has also been emphasized that individuals need to safeguard their biometric information, monitor for suspicious login attempts, and regularly check SMS or email alerts related to financial transactions.

Furthermore, the government has urged citizens to immediately report any suspicious financial transactions on the National Cyber ​​Crime Reporting Portal.
