External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has made it clear that relations between India and Pakistan can only progress in an environment free from terrorism, hostility and violence.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, Dr. Jaishankar said that Pakistan continues its policy of encouraging cross-border terrorism and using terrorism against India.

He noted that after the Pulwama terror attack, India revoked Pakistan's 'Most Favoured Nation' status and increased customs duty on imports from and exports to that country by up to 200 percent.

The Foreign Minister further said that India also took several diplomatic measures after the Pulwama terror attack. These included suspending the Indus Water Treaty, closing the Attari border post, imposing visa restrictions, and reducing the number of diplomatic and official staff in the High Commissions of both countries.
