Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched the 'Drug-Free Youth Campaign for a Developed India' in New Delhi. Speaking virtually, he stressed that it is essential for the youth to be physically healthy, mentally fit and confident for a 'Developed India'. Modi appealed to the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle and stay away from drugs. The Prime Minister announced that a 100-week 'Jan-Sabhag' campaign against drug addiction will be launched and various programmes will be organised across the country every Sunday.

Drug addiction distracts people from their goals and prevents them from fulfilling their dreams, and also weakens the strength of the nation, Modi observed. The Prime Minister appealed to the youth to understand the serious consequences of this addiction, noting that drug abuse ruins careers, family life and future.

The Prime Minister urged people not to hide cases of drug addiction for fear of social stigma. He highlighted the importance of timely seeking expert help and treatment to overcome addiction. Modi advised families to identify the warning signs at an early stage and create an environment of open communication.

The Prime Minister also noted that habits like isolation, unusual behavior, avoiding conversation, staying out late or repeatedly demanding money can be early signs of drug addiction. He urged teachers in schools, colleges and universities to regularly discuss the dangers of drug addiction with their students.

The event was attended by over one crore youth from 28,000 locations. The participants included Governors, Chief Ministers, My Bharat and National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, as well as representatives from schools, colleges, universities, youth clubs, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and spiritual institutions.
