The world-famous Jagannath Rath Yatra is set to begin on Tuesday. Preparations for this grand religious event in Puri, Odisha, are in full swing. The construction of the three magnificent chariots for Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra was initiated with traditional rituals on the auspicious occasion of Akshaya Tritiya.

Following the arrival of the first consignment of timber required for chariot construction, artisans have begun assembling the chariot structures. Rajendra Kumar, a member of the Jagannath Upkram Samiti, stated that most of the crucial tasks related to the Rath Yatra have largely been completed.

This Rath Yatra is considered a symbol of faith and tradition. It is believed that once a year, Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, and Goddess Subhadra emerge from their main temple (Shri Mandir) to appear before the public, allowing devotees to catch a glimpse of the deities.

According to religious beliefs, the deities ride the chariots to the home of their aunt—the Gundicha Temple—located approximately 3 kilometers away from the main temple. They rest there for a few days before returning.

It is believed that devotees who pull the ropes of the Lord's chariot with true devotion earn spiritual merit and are cleansed of their sins.
