Mumbai Police has stepped up its operations to maintain law and order in the wake of the ongoing protests in Mumbai. A total of 13 cases have been registered in various police stations in the city since July 18 till yesterday, and around 400 people have been booked for unlawful assembly, violation of prohibitory orders and disturbing public peace.

According to the police, large crowds gathered at some places in violation of the prohibitory orders in force during the protest. Therefore, legal action was taken against the concerned persons to maintain law and order. The police have said that further investigation is underway after identifying the persons concerned on the basis of evidence, video footage and other information related to various incidents.

Meanwhile, additional police force has been deployed in sensitive areas of the city and senior officers are continuously monitoring the situation. Mumbai Police has appealed to the citizens to cooperate with the police administration in maintaining law and order, and to maintain peace and restraint, rather than believing in rumours.
