Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed that planning should be made to complete the metro projects in the state at the earliest. He instructed to work with a view to completing the metro project within three years from the start of the project.

The progress of metro projects in the state was reviewed in a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure held yesterday under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister.

The development of safe, modern and fast public transport systems in urban areas of Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur and the Mumbai Metropolitan Region is being promoted, which will accelerate urban development in the future.

Currently, 174 km of metro lines are operational in the state, while construction of 291 km of lines is underway. The total cost of metro projects in the state is expected to be Rs 2,80,755 crore.

The central government's share in this expenditure is Rs 27,216 crore, while the state government's direct share is Rs 50,250 crore. In addition, financial planning will be done to raise funds of more than Rs 75,000 crore through MMRDA, local bodies and planning authorities. The remaining funds will be raised through government guaranteed loans.
