Parliamentary panel seeks Mark Zuckerberg's apology

A Parliamentary standing committee on August 5 has taken a strong view over the temporary removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech from Facebook.

The panel has sought an apology from Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, warning that his protection and immunity could be withdrawn if an apology is not issued within 3 days. The committee said the Prime Minister’s address to students and Gen-Z on examination reforms and action against paper leaks was unavailable on Facebook for nearly 5-6 hours, calling the incident a matter of serious concern.

The committee has also urged the Government of India to take action against Google India in connection with alleged investment frauds through fake apps, citing a Hyderabad Cyber Police case in which complainants reportedly lost more than ₹48 lakh.
