The Odisha government has taken a significant step towards strengthening the security of its citizens through technology and digital initiatives. An improved safety module has been incorporated in the 'Odisha Yatri' app, making it the country's first government-integrated safety and transport platform. This innovative initiative reflects the administration's vision of making Odisha safe, smart and connected and providing public services on a single trusted platform.
The 'Odisha Yatri' app, which was previously widely used by citizens for daily travel, such as auto-rickshaw booking, cab services, 'Aam Bus' information and ticket booking and boating services, has now been extended with a comprehensive system for personal safety. This new safety system has been linked to the Odisha Police and the National Emergency Service number '112', so that users can get immediate administrative assistance through 'real-time location-based alerts' in case of emergency.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Women and Child Development, Mission Shakti and Tourism, Parvati Parida said that the security of citizens is the top priority of the government. Every citizen should have a reliable security system available in times of need. She mentioned the role of technology in making government services more accessible, prompt and ubiquitous.
This security system has been equipped with many modern features to enhance personal safety. Through the 'One-Tap SOS' feature, users can send instant alerts along with live location to Odisha Police and their trusted contacts in case of emergency. In situations where it is not possible to use the mobile screen, users can call for help through 'Gesture-Triggered SOS', i.e. by shaking the Android device or tapping the back of the iPhone. Along with this, features like sharing live location with family members, 'Emergency Siren' and 'Ambient Audio Recording' will be more useful in case of emergency. This security module is available in both Odia and English languages.
With the launch of this security module, 'Odisha Yatri' has become an integrated digital platform rather than just a transit app. In the future, the government aims to develop it as the country's first government 'super app' by including inter-city bus services, digital ticketing facilities for major tourist destinations and other public services.
By bringing transport, security and government services on a single platform, 'Odisha Yatri' has achieved a significant milestone in the state's digital governance. It is a great example of the government's commitment towards citizen-centric governance, successfully leveraging technology to improve the quality of life and security of the people.
