NSA Doval Chairs BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meet

India hosted the 16th BRICS National Security Advisers’ Meeting in New Delhi, which wrapped up its final session yesterday, June 23. The meeting is being chaired by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, who received his counterparts or representatives from BRICS countries.

Secretary of the Security Council of Russia, Sergey Shoigu, is also participating in the meeting.

During the proceedings, NSAs and Heads of Delegation exchanged views on the core theme, ‘Non-traditional security challenges confronting the world today.’ The discussions focused heavily on the rapidly evolving nature of national security threats, as well as the dual-edged role of new technologies in emerging security risks.

The delegations also reviewed the recent outcomes and strategic frameworks established by the BRICS Joint Working Groups on Counter-Terrorism and Security in the use of Information and Communication Technologies.

Addressing the BRICS National Security Advisers' Meeting, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval called upon the BRICS nations to unite against terror, cyber risks and disruptive technologies.

Speaking on the MOU reached between the US and Iran, Ajit Doval said that the deal will help energy security and the opening of the Strait of Hormuz is a very welcome development.

NSA Doval also added that the world is undergoing profound change, with traditional mechanisms for resolving conflicts becoming less effective. He urged the grouping to reflect on the constructive role it can play in addressing today's global challenges.
