Six people were killed and one injured after a ground-plus-three residential structure collapsed in the Mankhurd area of Mumbai on Sunday amid relentless monsoon rains.

One person is feared trapped beneath the rubble, prompting an ongoing rescue operation.

Personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), along with fire brigade and civic teams, are carrying out an intensive multi-agency rescue operation at the site.

Relentless monsoon rains continue to batter Mumbai and several parts of the western Indian state of Maharashtra, disrupting normal life as authorities step up precautionary measures amid forecasts of more heavy rainfall.

Schools and colleges in Mumbai, Thane, and Pune have been declared closed as a precaution, while incessant rainfall has led to waterlogging in low-lying areas, disrupted road traffic, and affected daily commuters across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy to very heavy rainfall over parts of Maharashtra. Authorities have advised people to remain cautious and avoid waterlogged and flood-prone areas, while emergency services remain on standby to respond to any situation.
