Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth to be the New Chief of the Indian Army

The Central Government has appointed Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth as the next Chief of the Indian Army. He will assume office on June 30, 2026. The current Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, is retiring from the Army on the same day. Currently, Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth serves as the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla. He was commissioned into the Army's Armoured Corps in December 1986. Over a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades, he has gained extensive experience in operational, strategic, capability development, and institutional domains. He has made significant contributions to enhancing the Indian Army's combat capabilities and its long-term modernization. Lieutenant General Seth possesses experience in commanding troops at various levels across diverse and challenging operational environments.
