Indian boxers deliver record seven golds at Glasgow CWG

India’s boxers won a record seven gold medals at Glasgow Commonwealth Games as the country finished fourth with 39 medals, including 13 gold.

Indian boxers scripted history at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, delivering a record-breaking haul of seven gold medals on the most successful day for the country at the event.

On the penultimate day of competitions, India climbed to fourth place in the medal table with 13 gold, 17 silver and 9 bronze medals, securing a total of 39 podium finishes.

Boxing emerged as India’s biggest contributor, with the team winning seven gold and three silver medals to top the boxing medal tally. The only other gold medal for India came from Soman Rana, who triumphed in the men’s F57 para shot put event.

Indian judokas and para track and field athletes also produced notable performances. Unnati Sharma won a bronze medal in the women’s 63kg judo category, taking India’s judo medal tally to four — the country’s best-ever Commonwealth Games campaign in the sport.

India’s para athletes also achieved a historic milestone in Glasgow, matching the combined medal tally from all previous Commonwealth Games editions with seven medals, including one gold and one silver.
