All-rounder Deepti Sharma delivered a masterclass spell, picking up a 5-wicket haul as well as a successful run-out effort as Team India opened their Women's World Cup campaign with a clinical 64-run victory over arch-rivals Pakistan on June 14, at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Vice-Captain Smriti Mandhana looked in great form, scoring 68 runs, while Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur struck 35 off 35.

Richa Ghosh's brisk 17-ball 34 helped the Women in Blue score 170/6 in 20 overs.

For Pakistan, Muneeba Ali offered the lone resistance, scoring 41 off 35 balls and anchoring the innings to some extent.

The rest of the batting line-up faltered, as they were eventually bundled out for 106 in the 17th over.
