Honda Showcases Quarter-Liter Neo-Retro Scrambler Concept at CIMA Trade Show
CHONGQING — Japanese automotive giant Honda has taken the wraps off its latest lightweight motorcycle concept, christened the CB250SS Scrambler Concept, at the China International Motorcycle Trade Show (CIMA) in Chongqing. The newly showcased concept represents a neo-retro urban motorcycle tailored around traditional scrambler styling cues, targeting emerging entry-level performance segments across Asian and global two-wheeler markets.
The CB250SS Scrambler Concept blends classic design elements with contemporary cycle parts. Up front, the motorcycle features a retro circular LED headlight housing four projector units protected by an integrated mesh cage, alongside a compact body-colored flyscreen finished in white and red striping. A teardrop-shaped fuel tank with distinct CB250SS badging, chopped front and rear fenders, a bash plate under the engine, and a premium brown ribbed-pattern seat emphasize its rugged aesthetic character.
Technical Specifications, Powertrain Architecture, and Off-Road Capability
Underneath its neo-retro styling, the Honda CB250SS Scrambler Concept is powered by a 249cc liquid-cooled, single-cylinder engine equipped with an assist and slipper clutch. Industry observers note that the powertrain shares architectural roots with the Japanese-spec Rebel 250 engine platform, which produces approximately 26 bhp of maximum power and 22 Nm of peak torque, tuned specifically to deliver linear power delivery and responsive low-end torque.
Despite its rugged visual cues—including high-mounted twin-barrel exhaust pipes and block-pattern dual-purpose tires—the concept appears primarily optimized for tarmac and light urban commuting. Equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels at both ends, gold-finished upside-down (USD) front forks, and moderate suspension travel, the setup reflects a road-focused geometry rather than hard-core off-road capabilities.
Advanced Features, Connectivity, and Digital Integration
On the feature front, Honda has fitted the concept with a round TFT digital instrument console. The cluster integrates the second-generation Honda RoadSync connectivity system, offering smartphone pairing, turn-by-turn navigation display, call alerts, and media management through handlebar-mounted controls.
A white protective grille bearing 'CB' branding covers the radiator, complementing the gold-finished gearbox casing and USD forks. The braking hardware comprises front and rear disc brakes supported by dual-channel Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) for enhanced stopping safety across variable road conditions.
Production Prospects and Global Market Availability
Honda has not yet confirmed an official timeline or specific production plans for bringing a commercial version of the CB250SS Scrambler to global markets. Industry analysts speculate that if greenlit for mass production, the model could initially target the Chinese and broader East Asian markets before potentially expanding to European and South American destinations.
Regarding the Indian market, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI) has not announced any plans to introduce the CB250SS. However, automotive analysts note that if introduced, a quarter-liter scrambler from Honda would create a unique competitive offering within India's growing mid-capacity motorcycle segment, competing against established retro-style rivals.
