High-powered task force constituted for exam reforms

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released a new video on his social media platforms, announcing the constitution of a high-powered task force under the leadership of Nandan Nilekani.

Sharing a video message on Instagram today, Prime Minister Modi stated that the Government of India is continuously taking significant steps to secure a bright future for students. He noted that those who have jeopardized students' futures are currently behind bars.

The government has arranged for fast-track courts to ensure speedy hearings in such cases. Additionally, work is underway in the Parliament to enact a new law incorporating stringent provisions.

Prime Minister Modi emphasized the need to make the examination system more reliable, transparent, and modern, keeping future requirements in mind. Maximizing the use of technology in the examination process is the need of the hour.

In this view, the Government has decided to constitute a high-level committee led by renowned technology expert Nandan Nilekani. This committee will work on measures to reform the examination system and enhance its reliability and transparency.

The Prime Minister stated that necessary steps to ensure the credibility and fairness of future examinations would be taken based on the committee's report.

The high-level task force will also comprise of experts from the fields of space, security, education, and logistics. The committee will also include former ISRO Chairman S. Somanath, former IB Director Tapan Deka, IIT Madras Director V. Kamakoti, former Education Secretary Anita Karwal, and logistics expert Amrit Lal Meena.

Born in Bengaluru on June 2, 1955, Nilekani is an Indian entrepreneur who co-founded Infosys and is the Non-Executive Chairman of Infosys since 2017.

He was the Chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). Nilekani is credited with building Aadhaar during his tenure.

In a late-night video message on July 23, Prime Minister Modi had announced that the government will bring in stricter measures against paper leaks and will try to get the Bill passed in the Parliament next week.

He also assured that the Centre will introduce measures to curb examination paper leaks, including provisions for fast-track courts and harsher punishments for offenders.

On July 26, Pralhad Joshi took additional charge of the Ministry of Education after President Droupadi Murmu accepted Dharmendra Pradhan's resignation from the Union Council of Ministers on July 25.
