Gulf Ministers Meet in Bahrain Amid Tensions with Iran

Gulf Foreign Ministers met in Bahrain on Wednesday as regional tensions with Iran escalated following attacks on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.

A statement issued after the meeting by the Gulf Co-operation Council condemned what it described as Iranian drone and ballistic missile attacks on the three countries, calling them a violation of sovereignty and international law.

The bloc expressed solidarity with Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan and said the security of its member states was “indivisible.”

The GCC said its joint defense and air defense systems were responding to the attacks and reaffirmed what it called the right of member states to defend themselves individually and collectively under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter.

The ministers also called on the international community and the U.N. Security Council to condemn the attacks and hold those responsible accountable, while reiterating the bloc’s support for diplomatic solutions and regional stability.
