The India Meteorological Department has issued a fresh warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall across Assam over the next three to four days, raising concerns of renewed flooding and waterlogging in several districts.

The death toll from the Assam floods has risen to 75, although the number of affected people has declined to 3.32 lakh. Seven districts continue to remain affected by the floods, impacting 21 revenue circles and 622 villages.

On Wednesday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma flagged off relief material trucks from the state BJP headquarters to the affected areas. The state government has increased the ex gratia assistance for the families of flood victims to Rs 9 lakh each and eased the norms for claiming the compensation.

Multiple agencies, including the Army, Air Force, National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Fire and Emergency Services personnel, and civil volunteers, are engaged in rescue and relief operations.
