Floodwaters batter 16 districts across Assam

Assam is reeling under floodwaters with more than 5.64 lakh people affected across 16 districts. According to a late-night bulletin issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, the worst-hit Sivasagar district reported 13 fatalities in the last 24 hours, followed by 5 deaths in Charaideo, 2 in Golaghat and one in Jorhat.

With these deaths, the toll due to flood in the state rose to 31 this year.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said he would visit the worst-affected districts on July 22, to review the relief and rescue operations.

Relief and rescue operations are being carried out by multiple agencies, including the Air Force, the National Disaster Response Force, SDRF, and Fire and Emergency Services.
