The flood waters in Assam have started receding, but the plight of people in the flood-hit areas continues. Around 1,36,000 people have been affected by the floods in five districts of the state. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, Charaideo, Dhemaji, Golaghat, Jorhat and Sibsagar districts have been the worst hit. Sibsagar is the worst-affected district, with over 55,000 people affected.

After this, about 40,000 people have been affected by floods in Charaideo and 22,000 in Jorhat. Three more people have died in flood-related incidents in Sibsagar district, taking the death toll this year to 85. 335 villages in the state are still under water, and about 15,422 hectares of agricultural land have been damaged. The administration is running 54 relief camps and relief distribution centres in five districts, under which about 15,000 people have been helped.

According to locals, children are unable to attend school, livestock has been affected and it has become difficult to get daily necessities. In parts of Upper Assam, the devastation in Assam's Golaghat district is once again visible after the water receded. Damaged houses, mud-filled houses and destroyed belongings in many villages indicate the plight of the people. Affected families say they are still in need of food, shelter and other essentials.

Many are still forced to live in relief camps. According to the administration, the flood situation has improved, but relief work is ongoing in low-lying and submerged areas.
