Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitharaman chaired the 3rd Meeting of the Apex Monitoring Authority of the National Industrial Corridor Development and Implementation Trust (NICDIT) at Hotel Ashok in New Delhi on August 17, 2026. The high-level conference brought together key political and administrative leadership, including Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Mohan Yadav, and NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Ashok Kumar Lahiri, alongside senior state ministers and union secretaries. The meeting served as a premier platform to evaluate the ongoing execution of the National Industrial Corridor Development Programme (NICDP) and outline strategic priorities for the next phase of India's manufacturing expansion.

Addressing the authority, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted that industrial corridors form a fundamental pillar of the Government of India's strategy to boost domestic manufacturing, enhance logistics competitiveness, and establish globally integrated industrial ecosystems. She emphasized that ground-level results demonstrate strong investor demand, urging state governments to move beyond project approval stages to focus aggressively on the timely completion of core infrastructure, speedy land allotment, and the early commencement of commercial production.

Streamlining Operational Bottlenecks and 'FIRE' Corridor Integration

To sustain growth momentum, the Finance Minister called upon states to rapidly clear operational bottlenecks related to land acquisition, last-mile multimodal connectivity, utility linkages, statutory clearances, and the delegation of administrative powers to project Special Purpose Vehicles (SPVs). She urged state authorities to embrace a unified 'Team India' approach and highlighted the strategic convergence of Freight, Industrial Development, Railways, and Expressways—conceptually anchored as the 'FIRE Corridors'.

Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal advocated for outcome-driven project execution, stressing the deployment of investor-ready, 'plug-and-play' industrial infrastructure, flatted factories, and integrated worker housing aligned with the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan. He noted that aligned initiatives like the Bharat Audyogik Vikas Yojana (BHAVYA) will further accelerate the creation of 100 plug-and-play industrial parks nationwide.

Expanding India’s Industrial Ecosystem

The Apex Authority reviewed progress across 20 approved projects spanning 13 states and 7 major industrial corridors. Notably, four flagship smart industrial cities—Dholera (Gujarat), Shendra-Bidkin (Maharashtra), Greater Noida (Uttar Pradesh), and Vikram Udyogpuri (Madhya Pradesh)—have transitioned into active production stages.

Deliberations also focused on key regional projects, including the Delhi-Nagpur Industrial Corridor, state-level expressway-led manufacturing zones, and credit support mechanisms for MSMEs. With over 5,300 acres of industrial land already allotted—representing an estimated investment potential of ₹2.21 trillion—the central and state governments reaffirmed their commitment to turning India's industrial corridors into world-class manufacturing powerhouses.
