A video of a young girl being beaten up in Panvel went viral on social media. Along with this video, it was claimed that the woman in question was an Anganwadi worker. However, an investigation by the Women and Child Development Department has revealed that this claim is completely false.

Taking immediate cognizance of the matter, the Women and Child Development Department sent the concerned Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) to the spot and conducted a thorough investigation. During the investigation, it was found that the woman who assaulted was not an Anganwadi worker but the girl's own mother.

The woman has expressed regret for her actions and has been made aware that hitting children is a crime under the law. She has also been counseled to prevent such incidents from happening in the future.

The Department of Women and Child Development has appealed to citizens not to believe unverified and misleading information being circulated on social media, and to verify the authenticity of any information before sharing it.

Meanwhile, the Women and Child Development Department has clarified that it is unfair to try to tarnish their image by making false allegations against them as Anganwadi workers in the state are working selflessly for the nutrition, health and overall development of lakhs of children.
