External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar today inaugurated a special exhibition highlighting India's contributions to mathematics at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jaishankar emphasized the need to move away from a one-sided perspective on the history of science and mathematics, and to accord due recognition to India's significant contributions.

He noted that the binary system—developed in India during the third century—serves as the very foundation of the current digital era and the field of Artificial Intelligence.

Furthermore, Dr. Jaishankar informed that an interactive exhibition titled "Global Diffusion of Mathematics" has been curated under the 'Samhita' program of the India International Centre. This exhibition showcases India's ancient mathematical prowess, ranging from the binary system to algebra and calculus.
