India has called the local elections being held in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir a sham. Such hollow measures cannot hide the reality there, said External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal.

Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Jaiswal said that the people of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir are protesting and the Pakistani army is committing wanton massacres. He claimed that at least 90 civilians have been killed in these operations since June this year. He also said that Pakistan is using gunfire, blackouts and repression to suppress the public's anger.

Jaiswal noted that Pakistan should be held accountable for these incidents and it should be made clear to the international community that Pakistan's claims on human rights issues are a sham.

Meanwhile, talking about India-China relations, Randhir Jaiswal said that positive bilateral talks are underway in both countries. Steps are being taken by both countries to improve people-to-people relations. As a part of this, the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra has resumed and measures are also being taken to improve civil air transport, he said.
