Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has taken a significant decision to provide Minimum Support Price (MSP) security to farmers. Accordingly, farmers in Maharashtra and Karnataka are set to receive MSP security worth ₹4,886 crore.

Acting upon a proposal submitted by the Government of Maharashtra, approval has been granted to increase the procurement quantity of Bengal gram (Chana) for the Rabi season to 8,19,882 metric tonnes. The total value of this procurement, based on the MSP, amounts to ₹4,816 crore.

Furthermore, the procurement deadline has been extended until May 29. A similar decision has also been taken regarding the procurement of sunflowers in Karnataka.
