Congress Betrays Women; Election Promise Falls Flat: Payal Vaidya

BJP State General Secretary Payal Vaidya has launched a scathing attack on the Congress government regarding the repeated amendments made to the 'Indira Gandhi Pyari Behna Sukh Samman Nidhi Yojana'. She stated that while the Congress party made grand promises to the women of the state during the assembly elections, it reneged on those commitments immediately upon coming to power. Now, by further restricting the scheme's scope and excluding young women in the 18-to-20 age group, the government has once again exposed the gap between Congress's words and deeds to the public. Payal Vaidya noted that during the elections, Congress had promised a monthly allowance of ₹1,500 to 28 lakh women in the state; however, the current reality is that the government is speaking of extending benefits to only a select few. First, a condition limiting the benefit to one woman per family was imposed, then an income limit was set, and now, by amending the age criteria, thousands of young women have been excluded from the scheme. This clearly demonstrates that the Congress government possessed neither a clear policy nor the willpower to fulfill its promises. She remarked that while the Congress government secured votes in the name of women, it is now depriving them of benefits by entangling them in a web of new eligibility conditions. The mothers, sisters, and daughters of the state feel cheated. This is not merely an amendment to a scheme but a direct betrayal of women. The BJP State General Secretary stated that every single guarantee made by the Sukhu government is crumbling. Promises ranging from 300 units of free electricity and employment to the pledge of providing ₹1,500 to women—all these announcements have remained confined to paper. Due to the government's economic mismanagement and flawed policies, it is now being forced to backtrack on its own promises. Payal Vaidya asserted that the BJP would not tolerate any compromise regarding the dignity and rights of women. She demanded that the Congress government explain to the state's women what happened to the promises made to 28 lakh sisters and why the scheme is being restricted through repeated changes in rules. She added that the people of the state are watching everything, and in the near future, the Congress government will have to answer to the public for its unfulfilled promises and betrayal.
