The Public Examinations (Prohibition of Unfair Conduct) Amendment Bill, 2026 was vigorously debated in the Lok Sabha today. Members of both the ruling and opposition parties expressed their views on the bill.

Participating in the discussion, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi accused the government of not being serious about the education sector. He claimed that the government has no intention of bringing about real reforms in the education system and that the bill is not transformative as it is merely an amendment to an earlier law.

Bharatiya Janata Party MP Bansuri Swaraj, however, strongly supported the bill. She said that the bill will bring about a transformation in the education system and this amendment has been made keeping in mind the need of the time. She said that this is a symbol of the sensitive and committed approach of the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase transparency and credibility in public examinations.

Samajwadi Party MP Akhilesh Singh also participated in the discussion and criticized the government. He demanded that all the demands raised by the youth and students should be seriously considered and accepted. Alleging that the government's intentions are not sincere, he said that only when the government's role becomes sincere, the examination process will become truly transparent.

Meanwhile, this bill is being discussed by other members of the Lok Sabha, after which the government will respond to the discussion.
