A CBI team departed for Delhi last night, taking with them Shubham Khairnar—a suspect detained in Nashik in connection with the NEET exam paper leak case. This action was executed yesterday by a team from the Nashik Crime Branch-2, following crucial intelligence received from the Rajasthan Police and in response to a request made by the CBI.
The CBI has initiated an investigation into the NEET exam paper leak scandal and has constituted various teams to trace leads and connections across different states. In connection with this case, charges have been registered for various offenses, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, destruction of evidence, and theft.
Abhishek Singh, Director General of the NTA (National Testing Agency), stated that the NEET examination was cancelled to ensure that not a single student suffers an injustice due to any paper leak. He was speaking at a press conference held in New Delhi yesterday.
He acknowledged that this decision is difficult and unfortunate for many students and their parents. However, he emphasized that taking this step was imperative to rectify the wrong that had occurred. He further added that the CBI would conduct the investigation with complete transparency, and only after that would it be possible to release further information regarding the case.
He also announced that he would soon hold a meeting with his team to declare the revised schedule for the examination. He stated that their objective is to conduct the exam within the current academic year itself, thereby ensuring that the students' future academic timelines and admission processes remain unaffected.
He also made it clear that if anyone from within the system is found to be involved in this paper leak, they too will not be spared. He added that the CBI has been granted full liberty to interrogate any employee of the NTA.
Based on the PDF document of the leaked paper that has been recovered, it has been confirmed that certain questions were indeed compromised. He stated that a thorough investigation would be conducted to resolve this entire issue from its very roots.
