Assam: The number of flood-affected districts has come down to five.

The flood situation in Assam is gradually improving, with the number of flood-affected districts in the state now down to five. However, the Meteorological Department has issued a 'Yellow Alert' for Assam and neighboring states today, forecasting heavy rainfall in the coming days. At Numaligarh, the Dhansiri (South) river continues to flow above the danger mark, while the water level of the Dikhow river has also risen. Residents of Sivasagar have been advised to remain alert due to the rising water levels.

According to the Assam flood report, the districts of Sivasagar, Charaideo, Jorhat, Golaghat, and Nagaon remain in the grip of the floods. Approximately 1.93 lakh people across 379 villages are still grappling with the situation. Charaideo is the worst-affected district, with over 77,000 people impacted, followed by Sivasagar (over 63,000 people) and Jorhat (over 34,000 people). A total of 15,430 hectares of agricultural land in the state remains submerged. Meanwhile, 80 relief camps are operational, providing shelter to around 13,000 people, and relief materials are being distributed to more than 5,000 individuals.

The report indicates one death each in the Sivasagar and Charaideo districts, bringing the total death toll from the floods in the state to 82. The floods have also caused significant damage to infrastructure and property; over 1,000 houses have been completely destroyed, while 2,569 houses have suffered partial damage. Thousands of animals have also been affected. The administration is continuously monitoring the situation, and relief and rehabilitation operations are being carried out on a war footing in the affected districts.
