Assam floods improve, over 5.24 lakh still affected

The flood situation in Assam has shown signs of improvement, though over 5.24 lakh people continue to remain affected across five districts.

Two more deaths in Charaideo have pushed this year's flood toll to 68. Charaideo, Sivasagar, and Jorhat remain the worst-hit districts.

More than 763 villages are still submerged, with extensive crop damage reported. Relief and rescue operations by multiple agencies are continuing across the affected areas.

The Dhansiri River at Numaligarh remains above the danger level.

Also, on social media platform X, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said rescue and relief teams are reaching deeper into previously inaccessible areas, delivering essential supplies and evacuating people to safer locations.

He added that as connectivity is being restored, relief operations are gathering pace, and commended the rescue teams for their relentless efforts in assisting flood-affected communities.
