Amit Shah Takes Stock of Flood Relief Efforts in Assam

Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma to review the ongoing relief efforts in the wake of the Assam Floods.

In a social media post, the CM said, the Union Minister enquired about the situation on the ground and reassured that the Government of India will continue to provide every assistance required for relief, restoration and rebuilding. He further reiterated that all agencies and resources of the Central Government are at the disposal of the people of Assam during this difficult time.

The flood situation in Assam continues to remain critical. According to the latest update from the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), seven districts—Sivasagar, Charaideo, Golaghat, Jorhat, Nagaon, Sonitpur and Kamrup Metropolitan—remain affected.

A total of 622 villages under 21 revenue circles are still inundated, affecting 3,32,639 people. Nearly 45,000 hectares of agricultural land remain submerged.

Seven bodies were recovered in the past 24 hours, taking the flood death toll in the state to 75. Relief operations are continuing through 115 relief camps and distribution centres, while 32,477 people are currently staying in 81 relief camps. Teams from the NDRF, SDRF, Police, Civil Administration, Army, Air Force, paramilitary forces and volunteer organisations are continuing rescue and relief operations.
