During the Yatra, lakhs of devotees from across the country will reach the holy Amarnath cave situated at an altitude of about 3,888 meters above sea level to have darshan of Lord Shiva and the naturally formed ice Shivalinga.

The first batch of pilgrims reached the base camps at Nunwan in Anantnag district and Baltal in Ganderbal district on Wednesday amid tight security.

The first batch was flagged off by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha from Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu. The first batch includes 4,822 pilgrims. Of these, 2,510 will travel via the Pahalgam route and 2,312 via the Baltal route.

Extensive security arrangements have been made along both routes to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of the pilgrimage. Necessary facilities, including resting places, food, health services, and rescue teams, have been made available for pilgrims.
