Taking a tough stance on online security of users, the central government has also issued a notice to messaging platform 'Telegram'. Earlier, the government had sent a notice to 'Meta', the parent company of WhatsApp, regarding its proposed 'username feature'.

According to sources, the Ministry of Information Technology has asked Telegram why it should be allowed to continue the 'username feature' on its platform. The ministry has sought a reply from Telegram within 15 days.

Earlier, on Wednesday, the central government had issued a notice to Meta regarding WhatsApp's 'username feature'. The government had expressed concern that misuse of this feature could lead to an increase in online fraud, phishing and cybercrime incidents.
