The Forest Department is increasingly concerned as a herd of approximately 30 elephants continues to camp in the Haramba-Umri forest and lake area of ​​Chandrapur Taluka.

The Forest Department has observed that the herd has settled in the area for an extended period because the region offers a favorable habitat, characterized by dense forest, abundant water sources, and natural food supplies.

A special Forest Department team is continuously monitoring the elephants' movements, and precautionary measures are being implemented in vulnerable villages.

In accordance with instructions from senior officials, efforts to drive the elephants away or interfere with their natural movements are being avoided; it has been emphasized that, for the sake of wildlife conservation, they must be allowed to roam freely within their natural habitat.

However, the prolonged presence of the herd in the area could increase the risk of human-wildlife conflict. Consequently, the Forest Department is taking special precautions to prevent crop damage, the entry of elephants into villages, and potential untoward incidents.
