Heavy rains in Palghar district for the past few days have led to severe flooding in many areas. Against this backdrop, the district administration is carrying out rescue and relief operations on a war footing.

As a precautionary measure, all schools and colleges in Palghar, Dahanu and Talasari talukas have been declared holiday tomorrow. Due to heavy rains, low-lying areas in Dahanu, Talasari and Palghar talukas have been flooded and residents have been evacuated safely.

So far, a total of 891 citizens from 218 families have been shifted to safer places, including 694 from 169 families in Dahanu, 65 from 14 families in Talasari and 128 from 35 families in Palghar taluka. Food, drinking water and other necessary facilities have been provided to all these displaced citizens in the shelter centers.

There have also been reports of loss of life due to flooding, with one person dying in Dahanu taluka.

The work of identifying the deceased is currently underway. Emergency services have been deployed for the rescue operation, with the Mumbai NDRF and the Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation fire brigade deployed in Talasari, while the Palghar NDRF and Palghar Municipal Council fire brigade teams are deployed in Dahanu for direct relief work.

Heavy rains have taken a major toll on road traffic in the district. Waterlogging has temporarily brought traffic to a standstill on many major internal roads in Dahanu, Talasari, Palghar and Vikramgad talukas, including the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway No. 48.

Efforts are being made by the relevant agencies to reopen these roads as soon as the intensity of the rains subsides. Also, the administration has undertaken the task of immediately conducting a Panchnama of the loss of life and property due to floods and heavy rains, and this process will be completed after the water recedes in the remaining affected areas.
