8 dead as heavy rains trigger floods in Keralam

Eight people died in rain-related incidents as intense rainfall triggered landslips, flash floods and widespread destruction, particularly in the hilly regions of Keralam.

Three central districts bore the brunt, with rivers breaching their banks in the wee hours of Sunday and floodwaters inundating towns.

Sixty-five relief camps have been set up, sheltering 1,465 people. The India Meteorological Department has forecast that the rainfall intensity will reduce from Sunday, with the southern districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam out of danger.
