The Amarnath Yatra began yesterday amidst the chants of 'Bam Bam Bhole' and 'Har Har Mahadev'. The holy pilgrimage has been started from both Pahalgam and Baltal routes and the first batch left for the Amarnath cave yesterday itself.

The administration has made elaborate security arrangements and arrangements for the yatra. The Prime Minister, while greeting the pilgrims, said that this yatra is an eternal chapter in India's spiritual tradition. He also appealed to the pilgrims to adopt five resolutions.

On the first day of the pilgrimage, around 12,000 devotees had darshan of the holy Shivlinga. Amid tight security arrangements, groups of devotees were allowed to have darshan. Meanwhile, the second batch of devotees has reached Baltal and Nunwan base camps and has started their journey towards Amarnath this morning.
