Women across the country—including those in Rajasthan—had harbored high hopes that the amendment bill related to the 'Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam' (Women's Empowerment Act) would be passed in Parliament. They were preparing with immense enthusiasm to celebrate this historic occasion. Many women in the state were eager to listen to the parliamentary debates on this bill; furthermore, they firmly expected that all political parties—setting aside partisan politics—would extend their support to this historic legislation. However, after the voting held in the House, the bill failed to pass, prompting ordinary women in Jaipur to express their deep disappointment. In the view of these women, the passage of this historic bill was absolutely essential; the opposition parties should have set aside their partisan interests and lent their support to it. Unfortunately, that did not happen. From working professionals to women with a keen interest in politics, many voiced the same sentiment: How much longer must half of the country's population—specifically—wait to secure their rights, such as the 33 percent reservation? How many more years and decades will they have to endure this wait? The mere thought of this is deeply disheartening. Nevertheless, expressing their faith in the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, these women have expressed optimism that this objective will certainly be achieved in the near future.
