Radhakrishnan flagged off a high-profile 'Har Ghar Tiranga' bike rally from Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on August 12, 2026. Addressing the gathering before flagging off the procession, Vice President Radhakrishnan highlighted the historical resonance of 'Vande Mataram' in shaping India's anti-colonial struggle. He noted that the sacred words acted as a potent catalyst during the freedom movement, uniting people across diverse linguistic, regional, and social backgrounds under a shared dream of a sovereign nation. He emphasized that the sacred song ignited an unyielding patriotism that ultimately dismantled colonial rule.

During his address, the Vice President urged citizens to extend the momentum of the rally beyond public demonstrations into every household across the nation. "In Tiranga Yatras, bike rallies, and cultural programmes, the forms of expression may differ, but the underlying sentiment remains identical—a collective sense of national belonging," Radhakrishnan remarked.Reaffirming national integrity, he declared that "Bharat is one, and it will remain one forever". He also paid tribute to Pingali Venkayya, the designer of the Indian National Flag, and Hansa Mehta, who led a delegation of women to present the first Tricolour to Dr. Rajendra Prasad on the eve of Independence in 1947.

Union Ministers and Parliamentarians Drive Campaign Momentum

The event reflected strong inter-ministerial participation, with several senior Union Cabinet members attending the flag-off. Present at the ceremony were Union Ministers Kiren Rijiju, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Dr. Virendra Kumar, G. Kishan Reddy, and Dr. Jitendra Singh, along with Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. Speaking on the sidelines, Union Ministers noted that the Tricolour represents the collective ambition and pride of 1.4 billion citizens committed to building a developed nation ('Viksit Bharat').

Prominent parliamentarians actively rode motorcycles alongside citizens, symbolizing a unified democratic effort to foster civic pride. Organisers emphasized that similar bike rallies, human chains, and cultural processions are being coordinated across all states and Union Territories in the run-up to August 15.

Evolution of the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' Initiative

Initially launched under the umbrella of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' initiative, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign seeks to transform the citizen's relationship with the Indian National Flag. Traditionally, the display of the Tricolour was largely confined to formal state functions and institutional ceremonies. The mass movement encourages every household to personal connection with the emblem of sovereignty by hoisting it at their residences.

The 2026 edition explicitly bridges the symbolism of the flag with the heritage of 'Vande Mataram'.
