Vice President of India, C. P. Radhakrishnan, arrived in Tamil Nadu on August 16, 2026, to begin a packed two-day official visit to the state. The Vice President’s itinerary encompasses a series of high-level academic, literary, and commemorative engagements across key regions, including Chengalpattu, Chennai, Thiruvarur, and Thanjavur. State dignitaries, administrative officials, and university leadership accorded a warm welcome to the Vice President upon his arrival.

On the first day of his visit (August 16), Vice President Radhakrishnan presided as the Chief Guest over the 22nd Convocation of the prestigious SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) located at Kattankulathur in Chengalpattu district. Addressing the graduating batch, he emphasized the critical role of higher education, scientific research, and youth innovation in achieving the national vision of a fully developed nation (*Viksit Bharat*) by 2047. Following the convocation, he attended the first death anniversary ceremony of late La. Ganesan, former Governor of Nagaland, Manipur, and West Bengal, at Vani Mahal in T. Nagar, Chennai. Later in the evening, the Vice President released a commemorative book titled *Echoes of a Nationalist Mind*, based on the life and writings of late K. Ramagopalan, founder of Hindu Munnani, at D.G. Vaishnava College Auditorium in Chennai.

Focus on Academic Excellence and University Convocations

On the second day of the tour (August 17), the Vice President will travel to Thiruvarur to deliver the convocation address at the 11th Convocation of the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN). During the ceremony, he will award gold medals and degree certificates to top-ranking scholars and graduating students across various undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral disciplines.

Following his engagements in Thiruvarur, Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan will proceed to the neighboring district of Thanjavur. In Thanjavur, he will participate as the principal guest at the Ruby and Silver Jubilee Valedictory Celebrations of SASTRA Deemed University, honoring the institution's long-standing academic legacy and contribution to technical education.

Local authorities and district police departments across Chengalpattu, Chennai, Thiruvarur, and Thanjavur have implemented elaborate security arrangements for the high-profile visit, imposing temporary restrictions on drone flying and uncrewed aerial vehicles in the airspace surrounding the event venues.
