Monsoon is active in Uttarakhand and heavy rainfall is likely in the next 24 hours. The India Meteorological Department has issued a warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, lightning and heavy rain in many districts of the state on July 20. In the wake of this warning from the Meteorological Department, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the situation across the state and directed all departments to work with utmost vigilance.

As per the directions of the Chief Minister, Secretary Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Vinod Kumar Suman visited the State Emergency Operation Centre and took stock of the situation arising out of the rains across the state. During the visit, the weather forecast, sensitive areas, road connectivity, water level in the rivers and availability of relief and rescue equipment were reviewed. The officials have been directed to remain alert 24 hours a day.

We would like to inform you that a red alert has been issued in Dehradun, Tehri Garhwal and Haridwar on July 20, while an orange alert has been issued in Uttarkashi, Nainital, Champawat, Pauri Garhwal and Udham Singh Nagar. Apart from this, a yellow alert has been issued in Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Almora, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, landslides, waterlogging and flash floods are likely at some places in the districts under red and orange alert. In view of this warning from the Meteorological Department, all schools in Dehradun, Pauri, Haridwar, Champawat and Tehri districts will remain closed tomorrow, Monday, July 20.

The administration has directed to maintain special vigilance in sensitive areas, keep a constant watch on the water level in rivers, streams and valleys and shift people to safer places if required. The Public Works Department, PMGSY and other implementing agencies have been instructed to deploy JCBs and other machinery in advance to maintain the roads in good condition. The administration has appealed to the people to avoid unnecessary travel in bad weather, stay away from rivers, streams and landslide prone areas and rely only on official information regarding weather and disasters.
