Following a recent fire incident at a hospital in Dehradun, the Fire Department has been placed on high alert. Adopting a strict stance regarding safety regulations, the Chief Fire Officer has directed all fire stations to conduct regular inspections of hospitals. Henceforth, the fire safety and electrical systems of hospitals will be inspected daily, and corresponding reports will be generated. Chief Fire Officer Abhinav Tyagi stated that the preliminary investigation into the recent fire incident revealed electrical overloading and a short circuit in the air conditioning unit (AC) to be the primary causes of the blaze. Against this backdrop, the department has initiated a thorough inspection of electrical equipment, fire alarm systems, fire extinguishers, and emergency exit routes installed in hospitals. He further added that hospitals failing to comply with safety standards are being granted a specific timeframe to rectify the identified deficiencies. If these defects are not rectified within the stipulated deadline, strict legal action will be initiated against the concerned institutions. Additionally, he appealed to citizens to exercise caution while using electrical appliances during the summer season.
